Reconstructive Surgery vs. Cosmetic Surgery
The goal of reconstructive surgery is to repair the function of a body part whereas cosmetic surgery strives to enhance one's physical appearance. For instance, a cleft palate repair improves an individual's speech, hearing and tooth development. On the other hand, breast augmentation is a procedure performed to meet the aesthetic standards of a patient. There is no medical need for a breast augmentation whereas a cleft palate repair alleviates harmful symptoms.
